FAQ

Wakefield products are some of the most advanced concrete and masonry coatings ever developed.

Although they are easy to use, they are sometimes hard to understand.
Below is a collection of some of the most common questions we have received.

If you don’t find the specific answer you need, please contact us or any Wakefield distributor for more info.

Your success with our products is very important to us, so don’t hesitate to ask if you need technical support!

1. I see lots of other “silicate” sealers for sale. What makes InnerSeal different?

Look closely at the other sealers. They are almost all the same “copycat” product. Yes, InnerSeal does do all the things they claim to do, but they DON’T do all the things InnerSeal does. Remember, InnerSeal is a unique blend of technologies, silicates are only one component.

2. Can InnerSeal DPS and InnerSeal Densi-Dye be top-coated? The other silicate color systems I tried could not.

YES! InnerSeal is actually designed to prepare the surface for adhesion. What good is a coloring system if you can’t make it “pop” and shine with a clear top coat?

3. What is the difference between InnerSeal DPS and InnerSeal CBE?

InnerSeal DPS works completely below the surface to internally seal and strengthen concrete, mortar and stone, while leaving the top surface open for the adhesion of a top-coat sealer if desired. InnerSeal CBE is simply the combination of Hydro-Top’s penetrating water-repellent technology with all the benefits of InnerSeal. InnerSeal CBE cannot be top-coated.

4. What sealer do you recommend for use over InnerSeal Densi-Dye?

We have tested hundreds of sealers and top coats over InnerSeal Densi-Dye. Wakefield recommends our TC-One for most interior and exterior applications. Many other epoxies and polyureas were “acceptable”, but didn’t make our recommended list. As always, stay away from cheap acrylics.

5. Can I buy online?

Sure. Contact Info@WakefieldMfg.com (615) 566-3065 to speak with a Wakefield’s representative. We stock and ship the full line of Wakefield products and application tools.

6. Do I really need to be a “Certified Applicator”?

Of course we recommend it, but that’s really up to you. By being a Certified Installer, you will be listed on our Certified Installers page and get referrals to architects, engineers and designers in your area. Also, don’t forget that most architects and engineers require that applicators be certified. If you aren’t on their list, you will never get the chance to bid the job.

7. I can’t find a color chart for RCB.

To make RCB as versatile as possible, Wakefield ships all RCB in a white base. The product can be used as is for maximum thermal reflectivity, or tinted to any color of your choice by your local paint store. This way, the customer or designer gets exactly the color they desire.

8. What makes Densi-Dye better than an acid stain?

Several things make InnerSeal Densi-Dye superior to acid stains. First and foremost, it’s safe and easy. No more burns, fumes, mopping, scrubbing and rinsing. Second, the Wakefield Color System gives you exactly the color you want. With acids, who knows? Sometimes acids produce amazing results, but other times the process often ends with an un-happy customer. Even if the customer is initially happy, many times it is short lived, as acid stained colors (especially greens and blues) often turn brown over time. Third, your project is permanently protected from both moisture and alkali attack from below.

9. Can I get the random mottled effect of an acid stain with InnerSeal Densi-Dye?

You can get that and more! Although a single color application will greatly accent all the natural character of your concrete, advanced techniques with multiple colors can produce colors and effects unequaled by acids or any other coloring system.

10. Can I combine different bottles of color concentrate to create my own custom color?

Sure. That’s the beauty of the Wakefield Color System. As long as you record your mixing formula (how many of each bottle you add) the color possibilities are almost endless and easily repeatable.
